4 Ways To Take Better Care Of Your Dry Clean Only Clothes

Posted on

If you regularly take a large amount of clothing in to be dry cleaned, and you feel like you are not getting the most out of each dry cleaning, here are four things you can do to take better care of your women's clothing.

#1 Don't Wait When There Is A Stain

If you get a stain on an item of clothing that you can only dry clean, do not wait until your next regular dry-cleaning day to take that particular piece of clothing in. You should take in any clothing that has a visible stain on it right away. Doing this will provide a better chance that the dry cleaning company will be able to get the stain out.

The longer you let the stain sit on your clothing, the more the stain will be able to settle into the fabric and the harder it will be to get rid of the stain. The next time you drop ketchup on your favorite button-up shirt, drop it off at your local dry cleaner on the way to work the next morning; don't let it sit in your closet for your usual monthly dry cleaning run if you want to save your shirt.

#2 Wear An Undershirt

If you know that you are someone who sweats a lot, you may want to start wearing an undershirt. When you wear an undershirt under your formal shirts, your undershirt will absorb more of the sweat instead of your nice dress shirts. It will also absorb any deodorant you put on. Although deodorant is great at helping you not sweat, you don't really want it rubbing off on your dry-clean only clothing.

#3 Reduce Your Use Of Beauty Products

The beauty products that you wear can do some real damage to your dry-clean only clothing. If you like to wear lotions, put them on before you put on your clothing and make sure that the lotions have had time to completely dry and absorb into your skin.

If you wear make-up, put it on before you wear your dry-clean only clothing. If you have to have your nice clothes on when you put on your make-up, consider putting a beauty shop style bib on to keep the make-up residue off your nice clothing. Even better yet, reduce the amount of power-based make-up you wear in general, so less of it gets on your clothes as you wear it.
